Evoluant sur un fil de rasoir depuis quelques années déjà, Ferhat Mehenni a fini pas sauter le pas. Dans l’inconnu. La bride est lâchée. Du Mouvement pour l’autonomie de la Kabylie (MAK) lancé – non sans opportunisme – durant les événements meurtriers qu’a connus la région en 2001 à l’option sécessionniste, l’ancien chanteur engagé vient de franchir un nouveau cap aux conséquences qui peuvent être fâcheuses. La «ligne rouge» est franchie. Son appel à la «mise sur pied des corps de contrainte et d’une organisation de sécurité» scelle une rupture définitive avec l’esprit pacifique, qui a de tout temps caractérisé les luttes démocratiques dans la région. Ce caractère pacifique qui a été depuis toujours l’ADN des combats menés par la génération militante à laquelle Ferhat Mehenni pourtant appartenait. C’est ce qui a fait la singularité du combat identitaire, démocratique et des droits de l’homme. Mais, le fils de Illoula (Azazga) a fait le choix d’inscrire désormais sa démarche dans une logique qui peut conduire vers l’irréparable. Car elle prépare le lit de la violence. Dans un contexte national extrêmement tendu, rempli d’incertitudes et dans un pays installé dans une impasse historique, il suffit d’une étincelle pour que tout bascule. L’Algérie n’a pas besoin d’un scénario du pire. Encore moins la Kabylie qui n’a pas encore pansé ses blessures. La plaie du printemps de 2001, où 126 jeunes assassinés par les balles de la gendarmerie, reste ouverte. C’est un traumatisme insurmontable, d’autant que la justice n’a pas été rendue. La stratégie de lutte que Ferhat Mehenni entend mettre en place risque d’ouvrir les portes de l’enfer. Non pas pour lui personnellement, mais pour toute la région et surtout pour ses partisans dont la majorité s’est engagée sincèrement. Les emmener sur un terrain autre que celui de la lutte pacifique, c’est leur ouvrir des perspectives sombres. C’est faire preuve d’une irresponsabilité politique et morale. Cette stratégie du pire poursuivie par «le maquisard de la chanson» autorise beaucoup de questionnements. Quel diable l’a-t-il pris ? Comment celui qui fut le chantre du pacifisme bascule avec une facilité déconcertante dans ce qui s’apparente à des prémices de la violence ? C’était prévisible. Depuis le lancement de son mouvement autonomiste et surtout depuis son installation en France, Ferhat Mehenni s’extrémise. Farouchement engagé aux confins de l’éthnicisme, Ferhat s’attelle à construire graduellement un discours provocateur, subversif et dangereux. Se proclamant chef de la Kabylie autodésigné et mettant sur pied un fantomatique «gouvernement provisoire», il escalade un à un les étages d’une construction politique effrayante. A partir de Paris, il envoie ses partisans en Kabylie au charbon, certains d’entre eux ont pris leurs distances – parce qu’ayant vite détecté les dérives – sont voués aux gémonies. Il les a couverts de persécution. «Celui qui n’est pas avec lui est un mauvais Kabyle, un traître». La Kabylie, qui a toujours était à l’avant-garde des luttes démocratiques, plurielles et pacifiques, est poussée pas à pas dans le moule de la pensée unique. Nombres d’acteurs politiques de la région voyaient venir le danger. Pour eux, la tendance autonomiste devenue indépendante, certes minoritaire, prend en otage la région, fait du mal aux partis démocratiques traditionnellement implantés en Kabylie, désormais montrée du doigt. Jouant sur la fibre «nationaliste kabyle» contre «les algériannistes», Ferhat Mehenni parasite tout débat démocratique et pluriel. C’est lui enlever lui sa singularité à ce «bastion de la démocratie» qui a toujours été son caractère emblématique. Et c’est surtout renier son engagement pour la démocratisation de l’Etat et de la société. D’évidence «l’évolution» récente profite aisément aux tenants du pouvoir qui combattent vigoureusement toute demande démocratique. Systématiquement, les militants politiques sont malmenés, empêchés et réprimés. Le combat pour un changement pacifique n’a jamais été le terrain favori des tendances lourdes au sein du sérail. De tout temps, les durs du régime politique ont privilégié les techniques des manipulations les plus sordides, le désordre violent. A intervalle régulier, la Kabylie a été un champ d’expérimentation des plans échafaudés dans l’ombre du régime. A la veille d’une élection présidentielle des plus incertaines, cherche-t-on à déstabiliser la Kabylie ? De toute évidence, le mouvement indépendantiste arrange plus qu’il ne dérange. Si Ferhat n’existait pas, le pouvoir l’aurait inventé, car il n’existe que par les diables qu’il choisis ou qu’il s’invente. Il faut toujours un ennemi extérieur ou intérieur. Certes dans ce que pourra provoquer l’appel du chef indépendantiste, Ferhat Mehenni en assumera une totale responsabilité. Mais celle du pouvoir politique est entière. C’est par ses méthodes autoritaires qu’il rend possible l’extrémisme, qu’il rend inévitable les ruptures violentes. Son incapacité à se réformer et son refus d’ouvrir des perspectives enchantantes plongent le pays dans une périlleuse impasse. La mouvance qu’incarne Ferhat est l’un des symptômes majeurs de cette impasse historique.
